| My Opinion: |
| This time travel “novel” is a series of short stories by L. Sprague De Camp which have been mashed together to form a book. The thing this book has going for it is that every chapter places humans and prehistoric animals together in the ancient past. Even better, the time periods are varied and include the Mesozoic, Cenozoic, and Paleozoic along with the flora and fauna of those eras. Unfortunately, the book reads like a “National Geographic” travel log or perhaps an “Animal Planet” special report. While humans are menaced occasionally and a couple of them are even devoured, for the most part, the beasts in this book are brought down with cannon-sized guns from 100 yards away. I found the premise wonderful but the stories lacked excitement. |
