"Terror took over as the white python -- the one lodged in his mind as well as in reality -- slithered down from the upper branches of the banyan and then slowly undulated her thick, milky coils around Browner like a mother's embrace .. The most terrible aspect of what Browner fervently hoped was his last living experience, was that even after his head had been subsumed into the filthy pink slime of the python's mouth, he was still able to think. And hear. He heard Mufti's hysterical laughter long after he should have."

My Opinion:
I personally found this book to be a base and sadistic romp through the worst aspects of mankind's response to rejection, physical deformity, and poverty. The "scumbags" of this story have absolutely no redeeming value and the author seems to relish the cruelty with which his characters dispose of their adversaries. The "heroes" of the story aren’t that much better on a moral level. If you suffer from Ophidiophobia (i.e., a fear of snakes) or look for humanity in the characters you read about you probably will want to skip this one. Be advised that this book does contain some sexual situations. NOTE: This book should not be confused with the light-hearted, killer-worm book, "Slither", written by John Halkin (see my review of this book).
