These cards are the first of two "Pep" card sets issued by Kellogg's since the "All Wheat Cereal Cards" distributed in the mid-to-late 1940's.  Eight white-bordered cards were printed on the back of each specially marked box of Kellogg's Pep Whole Wheat Flakes cereal (see image).  This set consists of eight subsets (12 cards each) covering the following topics: Ships of War, Historical Autos, Uniforms, Dogs, Strange Fish, Airplanes Sports, and Strange Animals.  The latter of which contains two prehistoric animal cards.  Apparently, the third prehistoric animal which was part of the Kellogg's "All Wheat Cereal" card set (i.e., the Tracodon) was excluded from this set.  The images on these cards are the same as those used in the three "All Wheat Cereal" card sets issued by Kellogg’s during the 1940’s.  Prizes were offered to individuals who mailed four complete card subsets to Kellogg's (see image).

NOTE: Kellogg's issued an additional "Pep Whole Wheat Flakes Cereal " card series in 1955 which were distributed in the same manor as the 1954 white-border set (e.g., printed on the back of each specially marked box of Kellogg's Pep Whole Wheat Flakes cereal).  This set contained only 48 black-bordered cards which featured different images than those used in the three 1940’s "All Wheat Cereal" card sets and the 1954 "Pep Whole Wheat Flakes" card set issued by Kellogg’s.  This set consists of four subsets (12 cards each) covering the following topics: Indian Life, Sport Champions, Canadian Military, and Modern Airplanes.  This series does not contain prehistoric animal cards. Prizes, including an album designed to hold these cards, were offered to individuals who mailed complete card subsets to Kellogg's (see image).  The more subsets that one mailed in, the "better" the prize.

My thanks to Jacques Vincent, a Canadian collectibles connoisseur par excellence, for sharing his knowledge of Kellogg’s collectibles as well as the packaging & advertising images shown above.
