This is one of the most scholarly sets I’ve seen.  With its emphasis on body part identification, black & white unstylized illustrations, and straightforward paleontological information, this set was probably not marketed to children.  My guess is the set was sold in museum gift shops and/or college book stores.  As stated on the packaging and the introduction card,  the general purpose of these cards is to help in the identification of common fossils.
