Dinosaurs Attack! Is sort of a retro set borrowing its creative flavor from the classic Mars Attack! Set produced by Bubbles, Inc. (a.k.a. Topps) in 1962.  The artwork is provided by a small group of renowned comic artists and were pencilled by Herb Trimpe, John Nemec, and George Evans.  Most collectors agree that The Dinosaurs Attack! Cards are one of the most graphic (both in terms of artwork & gore) and interesting story-line based non-sport collectibles Topps ever produced.  Whether because of the gratuitous gore or perhaps the subject matter in general, sales never came close to Topps expectations which is why this set is still relatively easy to obtain.<P>

NOTE: In 1990, a group of enthusiasts lead by Jim Nicewander (the founder of 'The Non-Sport Report' which later became 'Collect Magazine') issued the "1988 Topps Dinosaurs Attack! - The Ultimate Collection" limited edition collections which were limited to 75 collections and included the following: an original Topps advertising/promotion flyer, autographed cards/stickers by all ten of the artists involved in the Dinosaurs Attack! set, a complete card, sticker and wrapper collection, and two different, original issues of "The Non-sport Report" which featured "The Story Behind the Cards" with artist interviews, various artwork, and exclusive illustrations of preliminary Dinosaurs Attack! artwork.  These collections occasionally become available in the price range of $70 to $100. <P>

The production of this set also provides some of the more interesting trivia associated with a non-sport card set.  Did you know that most of the human images are intentional likenesses of employees working at Topps at the time this set was being created?  Did you know that Dinosaurs Attack! was the first and only (as far as I know) non-sport card set to be the subject of a television commercial (i.e., a 30 second spot that ran in the afternoon during kid’s shows like "He-man" and "She-Ra")?  And did you know that the storyline was optioned by Warner Brothers with the intent of producing a full-length motion picture?  Apparently, a director was already selected and plans were being formulated when reports surfaced that a certain book written by Michael Crichton was being turned into a film by none other than Steven Spielberg.  Thus million flocked to see "Jurassic Park" and the potential blockbuster "Dinosaurs Attack!" was never filmed.
